West Rising
Kristine Anderson, Suzanne Chi, Rachel Slater
What is happy? How do you express happiness in movement? What does happiness look like, feel like, smell like, taste like? In West Rising we explore happy. Through experimentation, research into dopamine and seratonin, and expressions of laughter, we seek to create a work in which you may share delight, pleasure and the sun shining on your face.
Rachel Slater is a Portland, Oregon based choreographer, dancer, teacher and producer. She holds a BFA in Modern Dance Performance and Choreography from the University of the Arts. She has been presented in Portland, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle and is very excited to be able to participate in the Remix Festival. She is a 2014 Career Opportunity Grantee, supported by the Oregon Arts Commission.
Kristine Anderson has been dancing all her life. She graduated with highest honors from Mills College, completing her MFA in Performance and Choreography in 2011. She has since been performing, choreographing, and teaching in Portland. This is her second year working with Rachel Slater.
Suzanne Chi is an alumna of Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA and the Bessie Schonberg Residency at The Yard in Martha's Vineyard, MA. She has been performing in the Portland, OR community since 2008.
