a Natural Dance
Justin Cabrillos, Addys Gonzalez, Effie Bowen and Jen Rosenblit
a Natural dance is energetic research concerned with ways of structuring bodies as they fall out of relation aesthetically and spiritually while still locating ways of being together. This work is concerned with locating logic outside of a normative lens, looking to surrealism as an improvisatory system for disrupting narrative while still ushering in the glory of absurdity, timing, meaning, sequence, divinity and the political.
Jen met Addys 13 years ago at Hampshire College, they have made many dances together. Addys filters performance through a literary lens. Jen met Justin in improvisation class. He stumbled into a beauty of a 3 second solo with another performer and then they parted. Jen has been interested in Justin and his own choreographic work ever since. Jen met Effie while teaching workshops at Hollins University. Effie showed Jen how to make bread in a very exact way while Jen drank tequilla.
